Terms & Participation
Your work stays yours
Plain language, no fine print. Here's exactly how participation in the Writers' Room works.
01
Your project is yours
Everything you write, outline, pitch, or share in the Writers' Room belongs to you. Static Studios claims no ownership, copyright, option, or first-look right over any idea or page created in or brought to the room. Participation is not a sale, an assignment, or a work-for-hire agreement.
02
Want help filming or creating? Just ask
If you decide you'd like production support — filming, editing, sound, a crew, or studio space — you can ask Static Studios. That's an entirely separate, optional conversation with its own written agreement. Nothing about attending a writing night obligates you to work with us, and nothing obligates us to take a project on.
03
No promise of production
The Writers' Room is a workshop and development program. Attending does not mean Static Studios will produce, finance, distribute, or represent your work.
04
Donations are optional
Sessions are free. A $5 donation is suggested if you'd like to help cover coffee, printing, and supplies for the room. It is never required, never collected at the door as a condition of entry, and has no effect on your seat, your feedback, or your standing in the room.
05
Room conduct
Give notes on the work, never the writer. Keep what's shared in the room confidential — other writers' unpublished material stays private unless they say otherwise. Harassment, discrimination, or bad-faith behavior ends participation.
06
Feedback you receive
Notes given in the room are opinions offered in good faith, not professional or legal advice. You decide what to use. Ideas discussed openly may resemble ideas others are exploring; the room is a creative conversation, not a registry.
07
Seats and capacity
Each night holds up to 20 writers. Seats are first come, first served, and waitlisted writers get first look at the next night. Schedules can change — we'll email you if a night moves.
08
Member Projects showcase
If you submit a project to the showcase, you're giving Static Studios permission to display the title, your name, and your logline on this site. You keep all rights, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
